Kenny unveils plans for Sacred Heart Hospital

An Taoiseach Enda Kenny announced the details of the €11 million overhaul of the Sacred Heart Hospital when he visited the hospital on Monday. The roll out of the investment into the hospital will quell fears that the hospital was being wound down. The design team for the project will be appointed this spring, with the tender process completed early next year, and it is planned the sod will be turned on the project by early summer 2015 and should be completed by late 2016 or early 2017. It was also confirmed that while the construction gets under way the hospital will remain open and accepting patients under its care.

Taoiseach to announce details of Sacred Heart project on Monday

Next Monday the future shape and direction of the Sacred Heart Hospital in Castlebar will be mapped out when Taoiseach Enda Kenny visits the hospital. The future of the facility had been a hot topic of debate over recent years, with calls for the Taoiseach to make sure the facility was saved and improved. An Taoiseach’s visit follows the inclusion of the hospital in the HSE capital plan for this year, with an allocation of €11 million in funding for the facility to ensure its future and bring it up to required HIQA standards. It’s expected the plans for the project will be completed by the end of the month and it will then go out to tender for design. The project will see the refurbishment and extensions to three long stay wards and an rehabilitation ward.

Chambers meets MEPS in Brussels

Castlebar based Fianna Fáil vice-president and local area representative, Lisa Chambers, met with Fianna Fáil MEPs Pat ‘the Cope’ Gallagher, Liam Aylward and Brian Crowley in Brussels on a recent trip. Lisa, who is chair of the European Affairs Committee of the Fianna Fáil National Executive, and three committee members were invited to Brussels to visit the Commission and the Parliament, and also to meet with the Fianna Fáil MEPs.

The finalists in the Small Firms Association (SFA) National Small Business Awards 2014 were announced this week by, AJ Noonan, SFA chairman and chair of the awards judging panel.
